In a significant move to bolster infrastructure, the Union Cabinet has sanctioned airport projects worth Rs 2,962 crore at Bagdogra in West Bengal and Bihta in Bihar.

The announcement was made by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, detailing that Bagdogra will see a new civil enclave developed at Rs 1,549 crore, while Bihta's new civil enclave is set to cost Rs 1,413 crore. Both initiatives were approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The enhancements at Bagdogra include a terminal building spanning 70,390 square meters with the capacity to handle 10 million passengers annually. The project aims to elevate operational efficiency and passenger experience. Similarly, the Bihta project will feature a new integrated terminal, spanning 66,000 sqm, capable of handling up to 1 crore passengers annually, signaling a significant leap in the region’s aviation capacity.
