The Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA) celebrated its 25th anniversary on August 19, 2024, commemorating a quarter-century of substantial contributions from India's pharmaceutical sector. This milestone reflects the sector's remarkable journey since the 1991 economic reforms that set the stage for rapid growth.

In the past 25 years, the Indian pharmaceutical industry has transformed from a modest market to a global manufacturing leader. Currently, the sector is valued at USD 57 billion, with exports reaching USD 28 billion in 2023-24, up from USD 729 million in 1998-99. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Indian pharma showcased resilience, ensuring a continuous supply of essential medicines to over 200 countries, reinforcing its role as the 'Pharmacy of the World.'

To mark this significant achievement, the IPA launched the 'Pharma Archiving' initiative, featuring a coffee-table book, a digital dashboard, and a comprehensive history book. Key figures in this initiative include Aman Mehta of Torrent Pharma, Namita Thapar of Emcure, and professor Chinmay Tumbe of IIM Ahmedabad. Sudarshan Jain, Secretary General of IPA, emphasized the sector's unwavering commitment to global health.
