Markets regulator SEBI has 'kept in abeyance' the proposed initial public offering (IPO) of JSW Cement, according to the latest processing status of draft offer documents. SEBI did not specify any reasons for holding the public issue.

As per SEBI (Issue of Capital and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2018, unlisted companies seeking an initial public offer and listed companies aiming for a rights issue over Rs 50 crore must file a draft offer document with SEBI through merchant bankers, who then correspond with SEBI on behalf of the issuer. The proposed IPO comprises a Rs 2,000 crore fresh issue of equity stocks and a Rs 2,000 crore offer-for-sale (OFS).

The IPO's net proceeds will be used for establishing a new integrated cement unit in Nagaur, Rajasthan, repaying certain outstanding borrowings, and other general corporation purposes, as per the draft red herring prospectus. The company filed the draft IPO papers with SEBI on August 16. JSW Cement, part of the diversified JSW Group with USD 24.25 billion in revenues for 2023-24, operates manufacturing units across several states.
