The Eastern Railway announced on Wednesday that it is contemplating legal action against Trinamool Congress MLA Kanai Chandra Mondal following his alleged misbehavior with a traveling ticket examiner (TTE) during a train journey. A video depicting the incident has gone viral on social media.
The video, which PTI has not independently verified, captures co-passengers in an AC chair car compartment protesting against Mondal’s companion, who was supposedly traveling without a valid ticket. The Nabagram MLA reportedly lost his temper amid the ensuing uproar, with a passenger questioning whether he believed he was living in a dictatorship or a democracy.
ER spokesperson Kausik Mitra stated that the incident occurred on the Malda-Howrah Intercity Express on Monday and that the railway authorities are consulting with legal experts on potential actions. In contrast, Mondal argued that the conflict arose from the TTE’s misbehavior and has lodged a complaint with the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) in Howrah.
