Sky High Troubles: Analyzing Aircraft Malfunctions in Private Airlines

A total of 268 aircraft malfunctions were reported by private airlines between 2024 and January 2025. Data shows a decrease in malfunction percentage from 0.033% in 2023 to 0.025% this period. IndiGo had the most issues, and technical snags often involve component failures needing rectification during operations.

A concerning trend in aircraft malfunctions has been noted among private airlines over the past 13 months, with data revealing 268 instances of technical faults. This information, disclosed to the Lok Sabha, highlights a significant though slightly reduced rate of occurrence after 2023.

The civil aviation ministry's data indicates that in 2023 alone, 384 instances were reported. However, in the current period lasting from 2024 to January 2025, IndiGo bore the brunt with 118 faults, followed by Air India's 66. Other airlines like SpiceJet and Air India Express also reported their share of technical issues.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, explained that these malfunctions typically result from component failures, requiring immediate attention from the airlines. The technical snags, often identified by flight crews through warnings or system failures in the cockpit, necessitate swift rectification to ensure safety.
