Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd announced on Friday that it has completed the refit of the Indian Coast Guard offshore patrol vessel SAJAG ahead of schedule. Originally planned from November 15, 2024, to March 15, the refit concluded earlier, following a successful sea trial, according to the firm known for its commercial and defence shipbuilding expertise.
With the industry experiencing a pivotal shift fueled by increased government investments in shipbuilding and defense infrastructure, Swan's Director, Vivek Merchant, underscored the company's strategic focus on modernization and self-reliance. Swan Defence is expanding its capabilities beyond ship repairs, aiming to resume full-scale shipbuilding operations to shape the maritime sector's future.
Formerly Reliance Naval and Engineering Ltd, the company, under the management of Swan Energy since January last year, marked the dry docking and refit of the second vessel as a significant milestone in its revival. The Indian Coast Guard's fast patrol vessel Raj Ratan was the first to undergo such extensive repairs, in collaboration with official partner Krasny Defence Technologies Ltd. This overhaul underscores Swan's comprehensive service capabilities, including critical yard operations such as berthing and dry docking.
