Global Currencies Juggle Amid Trade and Inflation Uncertainties
The yen has retreated from its recent high following concerns over Japanese inflation and possible Bank of Japan measures. Meanwhile, the dollar has experienced losses amid tariffs' uncertainty under Trump, with traders reassessing positions amidst Japanese inflation data and evolving global trade negotiations.
Global currencies have been experiencing fluctuations, with the yen retreating after hitting a recent high sparked by a surge in Japanese inflation. The dollar has been facing losses, marking its third consecutive weekly drop as traders reevaluate positions due to uncertainty over U.S. tariff policies under President Donald Trump.
The Japanese yen broke resistance levels previously at 150 per dollar and hit 149.285, as Japan saw core inflation rising at the fastest pace in 19 months. However, both yen and yields later fell after Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda signaled potential further bond-buying actions.
Market movements also saw European and Oceanic currencies fluctuating, with the euro trading steadily in anticipation of the German election, while the Australian and New Zealand dollars climbed due to possible upcoming trade deals and central bank policies.
