The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is grappling with financial losses of Rs 3 crore daily, attributed to discounts granted to women and senior citizens, according to State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik.
Speaking in Dharashiv, Sarnaik explained that this ongoing financial strain precludes the MSRTC from introducing any new discount incentives for different traveler segments.
Currently, women receive a 50 percent fare reduction, and discounts are extended to those over 75 years. These concessions have led to significant daily losses for MSRTC, raising concerns about its operational sustainability, the minister noted.
