In a bid to fortify economic bonds, India and the European Union will assess progress on a strategic free trade agreement this week. At a time when Europe seeks to mitigate risks in its dealings with China, the discussions aim to carve out a new collaborative agenda.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, along with key European Union commissioners, is scheduled for a two-day diplomatic mission to India, engaging in high-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top officials, focusing on trade, technology, and defense cooperation.
The agenda includes the pursuit of an extensive free trade agreement, addressing tariff challenges, and expanding strategic collaboration in technology and security, particularly concerning the Indo-Pacific region. Additionally, conversations will extend to geopolitical matters like Ukraine, highlighting ongoing EU sanctions imposed on Russia.
