North East: India's New Growth Catalyst, Says Union Minister Vaishnaw

At the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, he announced ambitious plans including a semiconductor plant, IT hub, and enhanced railway connectivity, aiming to transform the region's industrial landscape and foster international partnerships in technology and manufacturing.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw spotlighted North East India as the 'New Engine' of development at the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, emphasizing the region's burgeoning role in national progress.
During the event in Guwahati, Vaishnaw announced a groundbreaking semiconductor plant for Assam, cementing the state's position in electronics and semiconductor manufacturing. He also outlined plans to convert Guwahati Railway Station into a digital hub, bolstering the area's IT infrastructure.
The Minister highlighted the government's achievements in laying over 1,800 km of new railway tracks across Assam and the North East since 2014 and unveiled six additional Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals. Vaishnaw also confirmed operational plans for Vande Bharat Express trains to enhance regional connectivity and announced multiple infrastructure projects under the Bodo Agreement to stimulate economic growth.
His address included plans for a Greenfield Electronic Manufacturing Cluster in Kamrup and upgrading NIELIT to a Deemed University in Jagiroad, boosting domestic electronic production and education. Assam's CM Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the central government's ongoing support, anticipating Assam's rise as a critical player in the global semiconductor arena. Strengthening international ties, Assam signed MoUs with industry groups from Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan during the summit.
