India's approach to Africa, guided by a commitment to mutually beneficial partnerships, marks a stark contrast to extractive models of engagement, according to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. His remarks come amidst China's efforts to expand its influence on the continent.
At the Japan-India-Africa Business Forum, Jaishankar emphasized the potential of India and Japan's complementary strengths to foster sustainable and inclusive growth in Africa. Highlighting India's role as the continent's fourth-largest trading partner, with trade nearing USD 100 billion, he underscored India’s dedication to infrastructure and connectivity projects.
Significant investments have been made, with over USD 12 billion in credit and 200 projects completed. These efforts, coupled with collaborations on supply chains and industrial growth, are set to benefit not just Africa but also global economic stability. This positions India as a vital hub for Japanese ventures targeting African and Middle Eastern markets.
