Maharashtra's Road Safety Revolution: Testing Kits and AI Interventions

Maharashtra plans to introduce drug testing kits for drivers as road accidents claim over 40 lives daily. Maharashtra is grappling with a significant road safety challenge as over 40 people lose their lives daily in traffic accidents. To tackle this issue, the state government plans to introduce drug testing kits for drivers, according to Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik's recent announcement in the state assembly.

The minister acknowledged the rising number of road accidents, revealing 2022 saw 33,383 incidents, 35,243 in 2023, and 36,084 in 2024. Sarnaik admitted that implementing a highway Intelligent Traffic Management System remains a challenge for the state.

This system aims to enhance safety and traffic flow using technology like CCTV cameras, sensors, and Artificial Intelligence. Furthermore, Maharashtra is focusing on better detecting driving under the influence by utilizing advanced machines, reminiscent of Kerala's pioneering approach with rapid drug detection methods.
