Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament Sanjay Singh on Wednesday demanded that the government provide a detailed explanation for the Rs 2,604 crore loss incurred by Indian Railways, as noted in the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report of 2024.
During a session discussing the Ministry of Railways' operations, Singh highlighted a Rs 834.72 crore loss from interest payments on a Bandra East development project loan that remains unimplemented. Singh, addressing Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, pressed for justifications.
Singh criticized the management during the Maha Kumbh, referring to a stampede in New Delhi, which resulted in 18 deaths, as a sign of 'mismanagement.' He called for prompt action on filling three lakh vacant posts and fulfilling job promises made to railway porters' wards. The session was adjourned for the Holi festival, with discussions to continue on Monday.
