Softer vegetable prices contributed to a decrease in the cost of homemade meals in April, according to a report released on Wednesday.

The "roti rice rate" report by Crisil highlighted that the price of a typical vegetarian meal fell 4% year-on-year and 1% month-on-month to Rs 26.3, largely due to a significant drop in vegetable prices, including a 34% plunge in tomato prices.

A notable 19% surge in vegetable oil prices related to higher import duties, alongside a 6% increase in LPG cylinder costs, limited the overall decline in meal prices. The report also predicts easing of wheat, pulse, and edible oil prices in the coming months.
