The Assam government has embarked on acquiring around 500 bighas near Guwahati airport to construct a stadium and convention center. The move, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, aims to foster Assam's concert economy and provide state-of-the-art facilities entirely managed by the government, countering misleading media reports claiming otherwise.
Addressing concerns about land acquisition, Sarma assured that the process would involve transactions with genuine landowners, with no evictions planned. He criticized sections of the media for inaccurately reporting potential corporate takeovers by the Adani group, urging accurate representation to the public.
In addition to infrastructural developments, Sarma announced the third edition of the Orunodoi scheme, set to launch on September 17, which promises Rs 1,250 to beneficiaries. An initiative titled Orunodoi Plus will pilot an LPG subsidy, enhancing direct cash transfers, while 'Nijut Moina' extends monetary support to girls pursuing higher education, reducing drop-out rates.
