Asaduddin Owaisi, president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), expressed strong criticism towards US President Donald Trump for his recent decision to implement a 50% tariff on Indian goods. This decision came as a response to India's ongoing purchase of oil from Russia.
Owaisi outlined his concerns about the tariffs' negative effects, which he predicts will heavily impact Indian exporters, MSMEs, and manufacturers. He highlighted how the increased tariffs could disrupt vital supply chains, deter foreign direct investment (FDI), and lead to significant job losses in India.
The Hyderabad MP openly questioned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stance on the matter, suggesting that the Modi administration should take a firm stand against Trump's economic sanctions. He criticized previous efforts that appeared to prioritize strategic relationships over domestic economic stability.
