The Kolkata Metro Railway announced the upcoming inauguration of the newly extended Yellow Line, a development that is set to enhance the city's transport network by directly linking to the airport. The 6.77 km stretch connecting Noapara to Jai Hind Bimanbandar will begin operations next week.
The project, featuring four stations including Noapara, Dum Dum Cantonment, Jessore Road, and an underground station at Jai Hind Bimanbandar, is part of a major infrastructure push. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to inaugurate not only this section but also additional segments of the Green and Orange Lines on August 22.
This initiative, with a budget of approximately Rs 1,866 crore, is designed to improve residents' access to Kolkata Airport and the city's metro system through modernized amenities and efficient connectivity, thereby alleviating travel strains for local commuters.
