India Lifts De-Oiled Rice Bran Export Ban

The Indian government has lifted the export ban on de-oiled rice bran, previously imposed to protect domestic interests. The edible oil industry had advocated for this change to benefit farmers. Certain exports to Bhutan have been exempted from restrictions, and a special wheat seed export to Indonesia is permitted.

In a significant policy shift, the Indian government on Friday announced the lifting of the export ban on de-oiled rice bran, a crucial component in the cattle feed industry. The decision is poised to impact the domestic edible oil sector significantly.

The edible oil industry body, the Solvent Extractors' Association (SEA), had pressured the government to remove the ban to safeguard domestic processors and enhance farmers' income. Responding to the industry's needs, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) amended the export policy, making the export of de-oiled rice bran free with immediate effect.

In related trade updates, the DGFT issued separate notifications exempting exports of agricultural commodities including dairy products, onions, potatoes, and wheat to Bhutan from current restrictions. Additionally, a special one-time wheat seed export to Indonesia was permitted, pending certification from relevant authorities.
