The employees of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Ltd (BVFCL) are apprehensive about the future of the entity, as a 12 lakh MT factory is set to emerge on its premises in Assam's Dibrugarh district. Speculation is rife about the government possibly closing down BVFCL, facilitated by recent high-level meetings.
Addressing these concerns, BVFCL's CMD Mohan Raj Shetty expressed optimism, indicating that the corporation's performance has turned positive. Despite not being involved in key meetings, Shetty highlighted improved quarterly and half-yearly results.
The anxiety increased when a letter from the Department of Fertilisers on November 13 necessitated comprehensive details on BVFCL's units for a Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs decision, sparking fears of closure or disinvestment. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the groundwork for a new unit in December.
