China Launches Nationwide High-Rise Fire Safety Inspection
In response to a tragic fire in Hong Kong that claimed at least 128 lives, China announced a nationwide inspection of fire-safety standards in high-rise buildings. The focus will be on renovations and materials used. Authorities will enforce strict medidas to prevent future disasters.
In a prompt reaction to a catastrophic fire in Hong Kong that resulted in at least 128 fatalities, China has launched a nationwide sweep to inspect fire-safety standards in high-rise buildings. The Ministry of Emergency Management emphasized that the initiative is a preemptive measure to prevent similar incidents in the mainland.
The inspection will focus particularly on structures undergoing external wall renovations and interior modifications. The Chinese authorities have earmarked four core areas of scrutiny, including the materials used for external wall insulation, construction materials like bamboo scaffolding, fire safety equipment, and emergency evacuation routes.
Local governments have been directed to conduct thorough inspections and take immediate corrective actions if hazards are found. Serious violations will face strict enforcement measures, and accountable parties will be held responsible if they fail to eliminate major safety risks.
