In a significant diplomatic move, Pakistan and Egypt have announced plans to rejuvenate their ties in several key sectors, including economic, commercial, cultural, and defense areas. This decision marks a potential turn in their previously stagnant relationship.
During a press briefing, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, and his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, discussed various issues such as regional conflicts and economic cooperation. They decided to hold political consultations in early 2026, a decade after their last meeting.
The talks also led to the creation of the Pakistan-Egypt Business Council, aimed at enhancing private sector collaboration. Dar highlighted the facilitation of business visas for 250 business houses, which will eventually increase to 500, propelling bilateral trade. Both nations stressed the importance of a structured cooperation framework and acknowledged Egypt's increased scholarships for Pakistani students at Al Azhar University.
