Sweden Redirects Development Aid to Prioritize Support for Ukraine

In a significant policy shift, Sweden announced plans to phase out development aid to five countries. The government will redirect those resources to increase support for Ukraine, as emphasized by Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa.
The countries affected by this change in aid policy are Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Mozambique, Liberia, and Bolivia. Dousa highlighted that Ukraine stands as Sweden's most crucial foreign and aid policy priority, necessitating a focus on enhancing aid efforts there.
By 2026, Sweden intends to raise its aid to Ukraine to at least 10 billion Swedish crowns, reflecting the Nordic nation's commitment to Ukraine amid ongoing geopolitical challenges.
