The Karnataka Drivers' Union voiced their displeasure on Tuesday with recent amendments to Kempegowda International Airport's pick-up location policy. The picketing, guided by union leader G Narayanaswamy, was staged near Sadahalli Gate toll plaza, disrupting traffic as police employed mild force to manage the situation.
Protesters condemned the new pick-up scheme, arguing it burdens drivers financially and complicates operations. They criticized the imposed parking fees, which they claim were unilaterally decided by the airport authorities without their input. Union leaders warned of further protests if revisions are not made swiftly.
Airport operator BIAL defended the changes, asserting that safety and global best practices underpin them. While acknowledging initial resistance, BIAL reports that most passengers have acclimated to the system. They pledge ongoing adjustments to address valid complaints and assure vulnerable passengers receive necessary transportation assistance.
