Illicit trade, including counterfeiting and smuggling, has been identified as a significant transnational threat to economic growth, consumer safety, and national security. This concern was emphasized during a capacity-building program organized by FICCI CASCADE in the national capital, aiming to equip police officers with effective enforcement strategies.
Addressing the participants, Yogesh Malhotra, Assistant Commissioner of Police at the Specialized Training Centre, Delhi Police, underscored the vital need for such initiatives. He noted that these programs enhance the preparedness and operational effectiveness of police personnel tackling economic offences.
Deep Chand, Advisor for FICCI CASCADE, explained the widespread implications of counterfeiting and smuggling. He called for collaborative solutions to mitigate the severe economic losses and the erosion of consumer trust resulting from these unlawful activities, which also significantly reduce governmental tax revenues in high-tax sectors like tobacco and alcohol.
