The Indian energy sector has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past decade, according to Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri. Speaking on platform X at a recent Consultative Committee meeting, Puri highlighted that the number of petrol pumps in the country soared from 51,870 in 2014 to over one lakh by 2025.

This period marked a significant shift towards energy diversification and sustainability, with the minister praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership in fortifying the sector. Notably, LPG distribution increased by 127%, and residential gas pipelines now extend nationwide, cementing India's position as the world's fourth-largest refiner.

India has bolstered its energy security by expanding crude oil purchases from 40 countries and forming long-term gas agreements with 15 nations. The government opened over one million square kilometers for exploration, enhancing energy security. The progress in India's energy transition strategy, including achievements in ethanol blending and sustainable fuel production, underscores the country's pursuit of an affordable, independent energy ecosystem.
