India Opens Portal for IT Hardware Import Authorization

India's government will launch a portal on December 22 to manage IT hardware import authorizations, covering laptops, tablets, and more. Operational for nearly a year, the system is set to facilitate restricted imports through 2026, with a validity of authorizations until December 31, 2026. India imports $10 billion in IT equipment annually.

The Indian government is set to open a portal on December 22 for authorizations related to importing IT hardware such as laptops and tablets. This portal, crafted by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), will function until December 15, 2026, providing a streamlined process for the Import Management System.

Targeting restricted items like all-in-one personal computers and servers, the portal aims to simplify the importation process through proper authorization. It is crucial for importers to secure their credentials and comply with these regulations for a smooth operational flow.

India imports IT hardware worth around USD 10 billion annually. Importers will have the flexibility to submit multiple applications yearly, with provisions for amendments via the DGFT website.
