India and Canada have resumed negotiations for a free trade agreement, with official talks set to begin after finalizing the terms of reference (ToR), Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal announced on Thursday.
Earlier discussions were put on hold by Canada in 2023, but with the evolving landscape of global trade, both nations see the importance of revisiting these talks. 'We are hopeful that the ToR will soon be completed,' Agrawal stated.
Chief negotiators, Brij Mohan Mishra for India and Bruce Christie for Canada, have been appointed to spearhead the discussions. The bilateral trade between the two countries was valued at USD 18.38 billion in 2023, highlighting the significance of these renewed negotiations.
