The Public Works Department (PWD) is setting up its own material testing system to ensure high-quality roads, as announced by PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh.
Traditionally, contractors had to conduct sample tests via recognized engineering institutions, but now the PWD will have its own mechanism, starting with road quality testing.
The shift aims to save time and improve work quality, with plans to repair 600 km of roads in the capital this year, supported by new equipment purchases such as a block cutter machine for bitumen testing.
