ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India is poised to commence work on its ambitious integrated steel plant in Andhra Pradesh next week. This venture, touted as India's largest greenfield steel project, will witness an investment of approximately Rs 70,000 crore in its initial phase, aiming to establish an 8.2 million tonnes per annum capacity near Visakhapatnam.
The Andhra Pradesh government has played a pivotal role by allocating around 2,200 acres and ensuring expedited clearances and infrastructure support to boost the project's progress. According to AM/NS India CEO Dilip Oommen, this initiative reflects robust state-industry collaboration, enabling the company to expand from its western base to better access the eastern and southern markets.
The comprehensive project plan features the construction of both upstream and downstream facilities, fostering ancillary industries and fortifying the manufacturing value chain. With the operational launch slated for late 2028 or early 2029, ArcelorMittal Nippon is also set to establish 267 km of slurry pipelines for iron ore transport, projecting job creation and community rehabilitation in the region.
