Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reinforced the critical role of stakeholder collaboration in mitigating disruptions in maritime trade, amid uncertainties in West Asia. During a ceremony marking a Letter of Intent (LoI) for maritime cooperation with German shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd, Sonowal highlighted India's strides towards becoming a leading maritime force.

Sonowal noted India's policy-driven and infrastructure-led approach in asserting its maritime ambitions. Despite global challenges, including potential disruptions in the Persian Gulf, strategic collaboration can minimize threats, the minister asserted. India has activated advisories and a quick response team to ensure security and operational continuity.

The LoI with Hapag-Lloyd covers potential areas like ship reflagging, ship recycling, and developing Vadhavan Port infrastructure. Through these collaborative efforts, India aims to boost its maritime capabilities and global connectivity by 2030, enhancing its role in international supply chains.
