The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced on Friday that panic booking of LPG cylinders has plummeted, with only 55 lakh bookings recorded on Thursday. In light of ongoing geopolitical tensions, an inter-ministerial briefing was conducted to assess the availability of essential commodities, focusing on fuel and gas.
Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary at the Ministry, provided an update highlighting improvements in the LPG situation. "There is no panic booking now," Sharma stated, emphasizing that 55 lakh LPG bookings were made yesterday. She reassured consumers about a stable supply across India, asserting that no outlets were out of stock.
Nonetheless, Sharma acknowledged persisting challenges, remarking that the LPG situation remains concerning. She noted a shift towards piped gas, with 7.5 lakh customers transitioning from LPG. Nationwide monitoring efforts have ramped up, with 32 states and UTs establishing control rooms and district monitoring committees.
Strict enforcement measures have been implemented to curb irregularities, with 4500 raids conducted, including 1100 in Uttar Pradesh. "OMCs performed 1800 surprise inspections," Sharma conveyed, urging consumers to adhere to proper delivery channels for LPG cylinders.
On the financial front, Sharma noted that Oil Marketing Companies have increased prices for premium petrol, while regular petrol and diesel rates remain unchanged. Industrial diesel prices surged 25 per cent from Rs 87.67 to Rs 109.59 per liter. Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary of the Shipping Ministry, mentioned logistical relief at New Mangalore port for crude and LPG between March 14 and 31.
The government has issued advisories to prevent panic buying, promote efficient LPG usage, and ensure accurate information dissemination. All efforts are focused on maintaining the availability of essential commodities and sustaining normalcy across the nation. (ANI)
