LPG Crisis: Navigating Supply Crunch Amidst Geopolitical Tensions

The LPG supply crunch has persisted for three weeks due to geopolitical tensions, mainly in West Asia. While domestic bookings are gradually resuming, commercial supply remains limited. The government is prioritizing household needs and promoting alternative fuels to mitigate the crisis' impact, with enforcement against hoarding continuing.

Amid a prolonged LPG supply crunch now entering its third week, signs of stabilization emerged as booking rates showed gradual improvement. Yet, commercial consumers continue to face restrictions due to ongoing supply chain disruptions, exacerbated by the Middle East conflict.

The strife, primarily involving US and Israeli military actions against Iran, has resulted in the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, a major passage for India's imports. Consequently, the government has prioritized domestic supply, initially halting commercial deliveries before partially restoring them.

Efforts to curb black marketing and ensure equitable distribution are ongoing, with numerous raids and inspections conducted. Meanwhile, the Ministry emphasizes exploring alternative fuels, including piped natural gas and kerosene, to reduce dependency on LPG during this challenging period.
