Halwara Airport, located near Ludhiana, is set to commence operations on May 15, 2026, offering new travel opportunities for the region. Initially, two Air India flights will connect Ludhiana with Delhi, addressing a demand that has spanned over 30 years, officials announced on Wednesday.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora is expected to take the inaugural flight from Delhi to Halwara, signifying a critical milestone. The airport's development follows continuous efforts to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth in Ludhiana and adjacent districts. Instrumental in expediting the project were Punjab leaders, including AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Officials anticipate that the operationalization of Halwara Airport will boost trade, industry, and tourism, while improving travel convenience for residents and the business community. By enhancing connectivity for exporters, industrialists, and entrepreneurs, it aims to further cement Ludhiana's status as a significant economic hub. Minister Arora expressed gratitude to stakeholders and industry leaders for their support, highlighting the project's role in linking Punjab with national and global economic corridors.
