In a significant leadership shift, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) is preparing for the departure of its Chairman and Managing Director, Amarendu Prakash, who resigned with effect from April 2026. His resignation was approved by the steel ministry and communicated via a regulatory filing.
The interim leadership will be secured by Krishna Kumar Singh, Director (Personnel), who assumes the role of acting Chairman and Managing Director for three months or until a permanent successor is appointed. This transition period will ensure operational continuity for the steel giant.
Meanwhile, the Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) has shortlisted Ashok Kumar Panda, Director (Finance), as a potential candidate to lead SAIL. Panda emerged as one of ten considered for the top position following rigorous interviews. The leadership change comes as Prakash's term ends on April 2, 2026, marking the end of his tenure which began in May 2023.
