In a strategic move to strengthen ties, India and Italy on Thursday announced the creation of a defence industrial framework focused on co-producing military hardware. This collaboration is timely, given the evolving security landscape, notably the ongoing crisis in West Asia.
The agreement was formalized during discussions in New Delhi between India's Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, and Italy's Defence Minister, Guido Crosetto. The meeting resulted in the unveiling of a bilateral military cooperation plan for 2026-27, targeting the enhancement of military engagements between the countries.
Both nations aspire to boost cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, focusing on technology collaboration, interoperability, and defence platform co-development. The India-Italy partnership, built on shared values like peace and mutual respect, also highlighted notable maritime convergence and information exchange collaborations.
