Amazon Powers Mumbai Schools and Communities with Solar Solutions
Amazon has launched a solar energy initiative in Mumbai to boost public school infrastructure and enhance community safety using clean energy. The project involves installing solar rooftop systems in 17 schools and solar streetlights in nearby villages, aiming to improve education and safety while reducing carbon emissions.
Amazon has embarked on a groundbreaking Solar Energy Community Development Project in Mumbai, destined to transform the educational and communal landscape with its renewable energy solutions. The initiative, aimed at fortifying public school infrastructure and reinforcing safety in underprivileged communities, promises long-term social and environmental benefits.
Key figures from Amazon, including Mr. Saji PK and Mr. Adityaa Chowdry, were present during the launch, alongside CSR team members Ms. Brinda Alankar and Ms. Rashika Saini. Government officials such as Mr. Shashikant Memane and Ms. Manisha Pawar also attended, as did Dr. Sachin Shigwan of Green India Initiative, which partnered with Amazon to execute the project at Hariyali School in Powai.
Solar on-grid rooftop systems, with a collective capacity of 75 kWp, now span 17 schools under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in the Powai region. These installations ensure continuous power, mitigate electricity costs, and enrich the educational environment. Additionally, 50 solar street lights have been installed in nearby villages, enhancing safety and reducing wildlife-related risks.
The initiative aims to slash carbon emissions, echoing India's renewable energy ambitions. By cutting energy costs, schools can redirect savings toward educational improvements, while enhanced community lighting fosters economic growth and better quality of life.
Amazon's project is a testament to the power of collaborative efforts in solving foundational infrastructure and sustainability issues, reinforcing the company's dedication to inclusive and sustainable progress.
