The Uttar Pradesh Tent Caterers and Decorators Welfare Association has voiced strong opposition against the significant increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices. The association claims that this surge will considerably impact traders and the public alike, particularly during the ongoing wedding season.
Vijay Kumar, the association's president, highlighted the challenge, noting that catering contracts for May weddings were already locked in at previous rates, forcing caterers to bear the unexpected added expenses. He detailed that the cylinder price, once around Rs 1,850, has surged to Rs 3,200, placing a heavy burden on various stakeholders.
Kumar suggested that the price hike is strategically implemented by officials, potentially to provoke traders against the government. He warned of possible repercussions in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and urged the government to reconsider the revised rates, citing its adverse effects on inflation and public sentiment.
