Engineering Marvel: Mumbai-Pune Expressway's Tallest Cable-Stayed Bridge Unveiled

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway Missing Link Project is complete, introducing India’s tallest road cable-stayed bridge, bypassing Khandala Ghat. The project, led by Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, overcame severe weather and geographical challenges to create a critical, eight-lane route featuring 182-metre high pylons, enhancing connectivity and advancing engineering in infrastructure development.

The completion of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway Missing Link Project marks a significant achievement in Indian infrastructure. This development, inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, showcases India’s tallest road cable-stayed bridge, bypassing the Khandala Ghat section and enhancing travel efficiency.

Executed by Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, the project features a 650-metre viaduct with towering 182-metre pylons, setting a new record for Indian road projects. Despite challenging conditions in the Sahyadri region, including severe weather and limited space, the team executed the project with high precision and safety standards.

Beyond connecting Mumbai and Pune more effectively, the project includes expanding the expressway to eight lanes over approximately 5.86 km and constructing extensive approach roads. This engineering feat not only facilitates safer, faster travel but also demonstrates India's capability in managing complex infrastructure undertakings.
