The newly constructed Mumbai-bound link of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway opened to vehicular traffic on Saturday afternoon. The delay was attributed to the dismantling of inauguration infrastructure and residual cleaning.
Inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the 'missing link' extends 13.3 km, bypassing the notorious Bhor Ghat stretch and cutting travel time by 25-30 minutes between Mumbai and Pune. Initially opened to Pune-bound traffic immediately upon inauguration, the Mumbai-side link faced delays but is now operational.
The Missing Link project, praised as an engineering marvel, includes dual tunnels, two viaducts, and a cable-stayed bridge over Tiger Valley, aimed at full access control and congestion reduction. Despite increased vehicular movement, officials reported no significant traffic snarls since opening.
