The duties, initially imposed in 2021, are set to expire in 2026. Key industry players like Hindalco Industries, Vedanta Ltd, and Bharat Aluminium Company have petitioned for a review, citing persistent Malaysian government subsidies as a threat to the domestic industry.

The Directorate General of Trade Remedies will assess whether these duties should be maintained, considering potential impacts on Indian manufacturers. A recommendation will follow if continued protection is necessary to safeguard the industry from unfair competition.
