Billionaire philanthropist and global style icon Sudha Reddy captivated audiences at the Met Gala with a stunning homage to South Indian heritage. Reddy's 'Tree of Life' ensemble transformed the gala steps into a spectacular showcase of history and fashion, executed in collaboration with renowned couturier Manish Malhotra and styled by Mariel Haenn.

The ensemble drew inspiration from the Machilipatnam style of Kalamkari, bridging 3,000 years of tradition with modern couture under the theme of 'Costume Art' for 2026. The 'Tree of Life,' centerpiece of the outfit, was reimagined with modern aesthetics, utilizing natural dyes and intricate hand-painting. The ensemble wasn't merely clothing but an elaborate narrative intertwining traditional embroidery with contemporary fashion innovation.

The ensemble celebrated Reddy's Telangana roots, featuring motifs like the Palapitta bird and Jammi Chettu tree, alongside celestial Sun and Moon references. A royal blue corseted bodice led to a dramatic 7-meter trail with peacock designs. Metallic elements ornamented the back with brass, copper, and silver vines ascending towards the symbolic Kalpavriksha tree. The look was accentuated by $15 million worth of sapphires, including a 550-carat tanzanite, complemented by diamonds and Dolce & Gabbana accessory.
