The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology announced on Wednesday that the new Aadhaar App has reached over 21 million downloads within three months since its release. This milestone highlights the increasing public adoption of digital identity services provided by the app.
According to the ministry's statement, the app facilitates various services, including mobile number and address updates, without requiring users to visit physical centers. Over 2.8 million users have updated their mobile numbers, and approximately 600,000 have updated their address using the app.
Described as a 'next-generation mobile application,' the Aadhaar App is designed to offer users a secure and convenient method for managing their identity. The wide acceptance of the app indicates public trust and underscores its role in enhancing the accessibility of Aadhaar-linked services.
Moreover, the app incorporates several digital identity and privacy-focused features, such as face verification, biometric lock options, and a QR-based editable contact card. These features ensure that it remains a robust tool for digital identity management.
The Aadhaar App supports various scenarios, from hotel check-ins to hospital admissions and identity verification for gig workers, broadening its applicability in daily life, as noted by the ministry.
