The Jammu division of northern railway on Thursday celebrated the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, paying tribute to the courage and dedication of railway personnel and the armed forces during the critical period following the 2025 military operation. Officials commemorated the operation, which was launched by the Indian armed forces on May 7, 2025, in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam. The operation targeted terrorist infrastructure across the border and reaffirmed India's policy of ''zero tolerance towards terrorism'', railway officials said. ''The Jammu division, constituted in 2025, was then grappling with shortages of manpower and operational resources. Despite these challenges, railway officers and employees ensured uninterrupted services during the tense situation along the border,'' they said. More than 200 operational and commercial employees were honoured on the occasion for rendering round-the-clock services during Operation Sindoor. In recognition of his role during the operation, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Jammu division Uchit Singhal was honoured by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi for efficient management of military logistics and railway station operations, according to officials. Railway authorities said their efforts ensured the safe transportation of stranded passengers and the smooth operation of regular and special trains. Officials said that railway staff prioritised military movement by facilitating troop-carrying special trains in record time to ensure timely reinforcement of operational areas. ''At the same time, passenger services continued without disruption despite the heightened security alert,'' they added. Special assistance desks were also set up at railway stations to address passenger concerns and counter rumours during the period of uncertainty, according to officials. The Commercial Control Room of the Jammu division functioned as a ''nerve centre'', coordinating closely with security agencies while overseeing the operation of special reserved and unreserved trains across the country, they said. ''Passenger welfare, including catering and essential amenities, was also ensured during the period,'' officials added.
