India Ensures Fertiliser Stability Amid West Asia Uncertainty

Amidst regional instability in West Asia, India is actively managing the supply of critical fertiliser raw materials to prevent domestic production disruptions. The government collaborates with companies to ensure efficient ammonia and sulphur availability for fertiliser production, maintaining stable pricing and promoting balanced usage nationwide.

In a proactive move, the Department of Fertilisers (DoF) announced on Monday that it is taking decisive measures to secure the supply of key raw materials, namely ammonia and sulphur, indispensable for domestic fertiliser manufacturing. This initiative arises from increasing concerns over supply chain disruptions due to ongoing regional tensions in West Asia.

Aparna S Sharma, Joint Secretary at the Department of Fertilisers, confirmed during an Inter-Ministerial Briefing that the government is collaborating closely with both fertiliser and oil companies to address domestic resource availability effectively. In response to an ANI inquiry, Sharma elaborated on efforts to manage the surplus of ammonia produced by urea manufacturers, ensuring it's redirected for use by PNK fertiliser companies to maintain sector balance.

Furthermore, Sharma revealed that oil refining companies, which generate sulphur during their processes, are coordinating with PNK firms to secure consistent sulphur supply. Addressing pricing concerns, Sharma stated that the cost of urea bags remains fixed under the existing policy, while DAP prices are regulated at Rs 1,350 per 50 kg bag. She emphasized that the government will continue to monitor fertiliser stock levels to prevent hoarding and black marketing, ensuring stable supply and usage across the nation. (ANI)
