The Hotel Association of India (HAI) has expressed support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent suggestion urging citizens to delay unnecessary foreign travel. This move, HAI asserts, could significantly boost domestic tourism, thereby enhancing the country's foreign exchange reserves.

KB Kachru, President of HAI, highlighted the benefits of strengthening domestic tourism in the current unpredictable geopolitical climate. He noted that a robust domestic travel market not only conserves foreign exchange but also builds a more sustainable travel ecosystem.

Kachru emphasized the need for governmental encouragement of inbound travel, further supplementing foreign exchange reserves. Domestic tourism growth is anticipated to stimulate demand for hospitality services, fostering job creation, supporting small businesses, and spurring growth in tier II and III Indian destinations.
