Maruti Suzuki Reaches 3 Million Rail Dispatch Milestone in Green Logistics Revolution
Maruti Suzuki India Limited hits a landmark by achieving over 3 million vehicle dispatches through railways, marking a pivotal move toward sustainable logistics. This achievement reflects a significant shift to greener transportation options over the last decade, supported by major infrastructure investments.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced a major milestone, surpassing 3 million cumulative vehicle dispatches via railways. This achievement underscores the company's strategic shift towards greener logistics and reduced carbon footprints, substantially increasing rail freight's share in its outbound logistics. A decade ago, rail accounted for a mere 5% of vehicle dispatches; today, it stands at 26.5%, set to climb even higher in the coming years.
This rapid progression accelerated over the last 21 months, with the dispatch of an additional one million vehicles marking the fastest growth in rail logistics operation. Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi highlighted the expansion of rail logistics as a cornerstone of Maruti's green strategy, celebrating the ninefold increase in rail-based outputs since 2014.
Underpinning this logistic feat, Maruti has invested over Rs 13,720 million in clean transport infrastructure. This includes developing in-plant rail sidings and acquiring automotive rakes, which have been praised by the Government of India's PM GatiShakti National Master Plan for enhancing a multimodal logistics framework. Looking ahead, Maruti plans to boost rail dispatches to 35% by FY 2030-31, further eclipsing its environmental goals with a new railway siding at Kharkhoda facility, significantly curbing road congestion and fuel consumption.
