India Aims for USD 1 Trillion Export Milestone: Goyal's Bold Vision
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal sets a USD 1 trillion export target for India in the current financial year. With regulatory reforms, trade agreements, and improved logistics, achieving this goal seems feasible. Goyal emphasizes investment in the burgeoning Global Capability Centre sector, urging industry to seize this opportunity.
In a determined move, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Wednesday a goal of reaching a USD 1 trillion export target for the current fiscal year. The Minister, speaking at the LEAPS Awards, suggested closing the USD 137 billion gap from last year's USD 863 billion achievement is a realistic ambition.
Goyal highlighted collaborative efforts between the central and state governments aimed at enhancing infrastructure and simplifying business operations. His remarks also touched on regulatory overhauls, including the decriminalisation of over 1,000 infractions and cutting around 42,000 bureaucratic hurdles. He mandated the DPIIT to refine and consolidate business procedures.
In trade advancements, Goyal noted India's preferential market access in 38 developed markets via nine Free Trade Agreements, with plans to expand. He highlighted ongoing and forthcoming agreements, mentioning Chile, Maldives, Canada, and other regions. Goyal underscored the thriving Global Capability Centre sector, which attracts major corporations due to India's competitive costs and talent.
The Minister also addressed the logistic field, underscoring its importance in India's export strategy. Efforts to reduce logistic impediments and enhance infrastructure, supported by the GST framework, have streamlined goods movement. The LEADS Report 2025 was unveiled as a pivotal tool to assess and elevate logistical efficiencies across states.
