Sharad Pawar, NCP (SP) president, voiced concerns over the government’s inadequate action as the rupee plummets to a record low against the US dollar. He highlighted the government's failure to address the issue seriously during assembly elections across four states.

Pawar supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for austerity amidst West Asian tensions, stating that it should be heeded to mitigate economic repercussions. He noted the prime minister's active role in advocating for reduced fuel consumption and other economic measures, especially post-elections.

In a satirical remark, Pawar observed ministers making a show of their austerity efforts following Modi’s appeal. Instances like Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis biking to the legislature and Minister Nitesh Rane walking to the state secretariat were cited as publicized responses to the financial strain.
