AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami has appealed to India's central government to address rising fuel prices, citing a significant impact on essential commodity rates. The hike follows a disruption in global oil supply chains due to escalating Gulf tensions.

Recently, state-owned oil companies raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre after a four-year rate freeze, with petrol now costing Rs 97.77 in the national capital. State variations in prices are attributed to differing value-added taxes.

Palaniswami highlighted the public's struggle due to increased costs of cooking gas and fuel and urged the Tamil Nadu TVK government to consider local tax reductions. The global crude market has seen prices soar over 50% amid ongoing Middle Eastern conflicts.
