In a significant operation, Gujarat's Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) intercepted a consignment of 180 kilograms of silver, valued at Rs 5 crore, at Hirasar Airport in Rajkot. The substantial cache was linked to a Varanasi-based firm named 'Sunrise', raising suspicions due to incomplete documentation.
The local Crime Branch collaborated closely with the ATS after receiving a tip-off regarding the suspected transfer of a large silver quantity through air cargo. Alongside the silver consignment, authorities detained the intended recipient during the operation, Gujarat ATS Deputy Superintendent Virjit Parmar announced.
The incomplete documentation precipitated concerns of potential tax evasion. Following preliminary investigations, the case has been transferred to the State Goods and Services Tax (GST) department for further scrutiny. Legal processes have been initiated to determine any irregularities in the transaction.
